In any textbook dealing with the Allied victory in Europe you will find many chapters on Allied planning and how this ultimately won the war. I would suggest further to this that it was the men on the the ground that won the peace, a peace paid for with great sacrifice; one purchased for our security and liberty. May we continue to remember and respect what was purchased for us and at what cost. They won the peace for us all.

Derick Maynard

Victor Maynard was known to his family as "Jackie" I never knew my Uncle as he was KIA in August 1944, and I was born in November of that same year. The main story I remember growing up , is hearing about how my grandmother had kept a locket his hair before he left. Apparently he was the only one of her sons that she did this for. I guess in her heart she felt that once he left out that door , she would never see him again. A story that breaks our hearts every time I hear it.
