18 year old Royal Air Force Sergeant CLIVE RICHARD LEONARD THORNTON was one of 8 crew flying in a Handley Page Halifax Mk V, of 1663 Heavy Conversion Unit, Royal Air Force, flying out of RAF Rufforth on a training mission in 1943.

 

5 of the crew are buried in BAYEUX WAR CEMETERY: Sergeant ALLAN JOHN DUNN, Sergeant HENRY HINETTSergeant WILFRED JOHN PELHAM, Sergeant DENNIS WILLIAM SUFFLING and Sergeant ERIC FORD WILLIAMSON; 1 of the crew, Sergeant JOHN HUNTER in SIOUVILLE-HAGUE CHURCHYARD and 1 of the crew Sergeant DENNIS CHARLES BUTLIN is buried in Saint-Hélier War Cemetery on the Channel Island of Jersey.1
