Pilot Officer JOSEPH EDMOND BAILEY was one of 4 crew members, of 88 Squadron Royal Air Force, who were killed on Saturday 5th August 1944 in Normandy. His fellow crew members were: Flying Officer ALEXANDER DOW, Pilot Officer DONALD MURRAY, Pilot Officer ROBERT FRANCIS ROSEMOND.

 

All 4 crew are now buried in a collective grave in CAHAN COMMUNAL CEMETERY, Orne, Normandy, France.

 

88 Squadron were based at Hartfordbridge, Hampshire, from 19th August 1943 until the 17th October 1944. They were part of No. 2 Group, Royal Air Force tasked with attacking German targets in occupied Europe. The aircraft they used were Boston III and Boston IIIAs.1
